“AfterForms”: a hybrid metaverse exhibition exploring climate grief and digital memory
The National Arts Council (NAC) has unveiled AfterForms, a hybrid exhibition presented as part of its Project Arts Metaverse (PAM) initiative under Our SG Arts Plan. Framed as an online event with a strong experimental focus, the exhibition combines physical installations with virtual environments to explore themes such as climate grief, memory, and responsibility in digital spaces, moving beyond the idea of the metaverse as escapism or spectacle.
The project features four immersive virtual environments, developed in collaboration with TBWA\Singapore, inviting visitors to engage across physical and digital realms. Each interaction within this virtual event leaves a trace: participants’ presence, movement, and breathing shape the experience and highlight how digital spaces can retain emotional residues, unresolved histories, and experiences of ecological loss.
The exhibition is accompanied by artist talks, workshops, and a digital toolkit designed to support creators in building their own virtual environments. AfterForms demonstrates how art and technology can converge to encourage reflection and dialogue around contemporary issues.
